Aviation intensifies safety inspections across thousands of aircraft

Aviation safety has once again moved to the forefront following a new inspection proposal that could affect nearly 2,000 Airbus aircraft registered in the United States. The measure would involve inspections and, in certain cases, the replacement of components associated with the engine fire-protection system on A318, A319, A320 and A321 family aircraft.

The action stems from several reports involving the unintended release of engine fire switches. This could result in the uncommanded shutdown of one engine during flight, a situation that would reduce the aircraft’s operational capability and require the flight crew to take immediate action in accordance with established procedures.
